Jason Gillespie - PCB Contract Breach

Jason Gillespie, the former Pakistan Cricket Team coach, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) seem to be at war of words at the moment. The former Pakistan coach has accused the board of not giving him his payments for his time with the national cricket team.

Meanwhile, the PCB has retaliated, saying that Gillespie has not completed the four-month notice period that he was subjected to as was written in his contract.

Jason Gillespie and Gary Kirsten were appointed as Pakistan's Test and white-ball coaches, respectively, on a two-year contract in 2024. However, with the results not going in his favor, Kirsten decided to quit his position within six months. After Kirsten's decision, Jason Gillespie was named as the head coach of the side. However, he too resigned from his position in December 2024.

Talking to ESPN Cricinfo, Gillespie said that the PCB did not clear his dues for the work that he did in the meantime. They said that he reached out to the board to settle his dues, as he was promised to be given bonuses after Pakistan's Test series win over England in October 2024 and Pakistan's ODI series win against Australia in November 2024.

“Yeah, without going into the details, obviously still waiting on some remuneration from work that has been done. So just navigate through that in due course. Admittedly, that has been a little bit disappointing but look, hopefully that can get sorted sooner rather than later. So yeah, hopefully, that gets sorted as soon as possible,” Gillespie was quoted saying by Pak Passion.net.

PCB Refutes Claims Made By Jason Gillespie

Meanwhile, the PCB responded strongly to Gillespie's accusations and released a statement countering Gillespie's contract breach by saying that he did not complete the four-month notice period as was mentioned in his contract.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board refutes claims made by a former head coach on the non-payment of his dues. The PCB spokesman states that the former head coach abruptly left his position without giving a four-month notice period, which was a clear breach of the contractual terms. The coaching contract explicitly mentioned a notice period applicable to both parties, and the coach was fully aware of it," it added.

The Pakistan cricket team has not done too well under their new coach, Aaqib Javed, either. Javed was retained as the interim coach ahead of the white-ball tour to New Zealand. The Kiwis won the T20I series 4-1 and whitewashed the Men in Green in the ODI series.
