The Pakistan women's national cricket team has qualified for the Women's ODI World Cup in India next year. The side had an unbeaten campaign in the qualifiers and was the first team to qualify for the ODI World Cup.
Along with Pakistan, Bangladesh's women's team narrowly managed to qualify for the tournament, pipping their West Indies counterparts. It was an agonizing moment for the West Indies, who, despite winning the game, could not qualify for the World Cup, as they could not finish the game in the stipulated overs.
Hence, Pakistan and Bangladesh women emerged as the top two teams in the tournament and have qualified for the ICC event to be played in India next year.
Meanwhile, PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi has confirmed that the Pakistan women's team will not travel to India to play their games. Instead, they will play their games at a neutral venue, just like India and Pakistan did in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
"Just like India didn't play in Pakistan in the Champions Trophy and were allowed to play at a neutral venue, whatever venue is decided, we will play. When there is an agreement it has to be adhered to," Naqvi stated.
PCB Opt For Dubai, BCCI Keen On Sri Lanka
While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has opted for Dubai as the neutral venue due to its proximity, the BCCI is likely to opt for Sri Lanka due to accessibility.
“Pakistan women’s team will love to play their matches in Dubai as they have more experience of playing in the United Arab Emirates, which had been Pakistan’s venue during their isolation period between 2010-2020,” a senior PCB official said.
Pakistan had an unbeaten campaign in the qualifiers, where they beat Ireland, Scotland, West Indies, Thailand, and Bangladesh in the qualifiers in Lahore. The PCB chief complimented the team on their recent achievement and said that the board will announce a special reward for the women's team for their outstanding performance in the qualifiers.
"The team showed how to take home advantage and play like a collective unit. I am happy that women's cricket is doing well now," Naqvi commented on Pakistan's qualification campaign.
Pakistan joins teams like India, England, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and Sri Lanka for the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 main round matches.
