Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) CEO Venky Mysore has written to the BCCI and expressed his displeasure at the sudden rule change made by the board to make up for the lost time due to rain.
The BCCI previously informed all 10 franchises of a rule change made so that the time lost due to rain does not hamper the final leg of IPL 2025. As per the new rule, the matches starting at 7:30 PM IST can start at 9:30 PM IST without any overs being deducted. Now, the BCCI has added two extra hours for the start of the game before any overs are deducted, which was just one hour before the rule change.
The change was announced after the KKR vs RCB match on May 17 resumed the IPL 2025 season. There was a forecast of heavy rainfall, and it turned out to be exactly that, forcing the match to be abandoned. This also meant that the defending champions, KKR, were knocked out of the tournament.

I Am Sure You Understand Why We Feel Aggrieved - KKR CEO Venky Mysore
The BCCI, in an email to all the franchises, informed them about the rule change because "several matches are at risk of being affected by rain due to the early onset of monsoon." However, KKR CEO Venky Mysore questioned the timing of the rule change as it denied them the chance to fight for a place in the playoffs. His letter comes on the back of the KKR vs RCB match, which was washed out in Bengaluru.
"While these mid-season changes to the rules may be necessary under the circumstances, one would have expected more consistency in the way such changes are being applied," Mysore said in his email.
He said that had they gotten two extra hours in that game, it could have been a five-over contest, giving KKR a fair chance to fight for the playoff spot.
"When the IPL re-started (on May 17), it was clear that the first game on May 17 KKR vs RCB was at high risk of being interrupted due to rain in B'lore. The forecast was there for all to see. Not only was the game washed out, but the additional 120 minutes now being applied may have provided a chance of at least a 5 over a side game (sic)."
"The washout ended KKR's chances of making the playoffs. Such ad hoc decisions and inconsistencies of applying them are not appropriate for a tournament of this standing. I am sure you also understand why we feel aggrieved," Mysore added saying.
