India international Prithvi Shaw is set to part ways with Mumbai cricket. The 25-year-old batter has been granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), paving the way for him to play as a professional for another state side.Â
The decision marks the end of an era for Shaw, who rose through the Mumbai cricket ranks after making his debut in 2017 and also went on to lead the team in multiple tournaments.
Shaw formally requested an NOC from the MCA, stating his intention to switch state teams in pursuit of growth and development as a cricketer. The MCA, acknowledging his contributions over the years, approved his request. The move has now been confirmed by both parties.

"The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) would like to inform that cricketer Prithvi Shaw had formally requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to represent another state as a professional player in the upcoming domestic season. MCA secretary Abhay Hadap acknowledged Shaw’s impact on Mumbai cricket and extended best wishes for the future.
"Prithvi Shaw has been an exceptional talent and has contributed significantly to Mumbai cricket. We respect his decision and wish him the very best in his future endeavours," Hadap said as quoted.
Shaw, on his part, thanked the MCA in a heartfelt email addressed to the association, stating how much the experience had shaped his cricketing journey.
"Would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for the valuable opportunities and unwavering support extended to me during my time representing the association. It has truly been an honor and a privilege to be part of the MCA setup, and I am deeply grateful for the exposure and experience I have gained here," Shaw wrote.
He explained that the decision was made with careful thought and was driven by the opportunity for growth.
"At this juncture in my career, I have been presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another State Association, which I believe will further contribute to my growth and development as a cricketer. In light of this, I kindly request you to issue me a No Objection Certificate (NOC) that will enable me to officially represent the new State Association in the upcoming domestic season," the email continued.
In conclusion, Shaw reiterated that the decision was made respectfully and with gratitude toward his home association.
"Please be assured that this decision has been made after careful consideration, and with utmost respect for the MCA. I remain ever grateful to the association for the guidance and platform provided over the years," Shaw concluded.
While the new state association Shaw will represent is yet to be disclosed, it is being reported that the right-hander will join Maharashtra.
Prithvi Shaw’s Fallout with MumbaiÂ
Shaw’s decision to shift domestic base comes at a time when he has been looking to restart his career following fitness issues.Â
He was dropped from the Ranji Trophy squad after the Mumbai senior selection committee received reports from the team management indicating that his body fat percentage had touched 35 per cent. He was subsequently prescribed a two-week intensive fitness programme by MCA trainers with the clear message that he would need to undergo rigorous training to be considered for selection again.
In October 2024, the selection committee made it clear that unless he shed the excess weight, he would not find a place in the team. As his physical condition did not meet the required standards, Shaw was also left out of the Vijay Hazare Trophy later that December.
His last appearance for Mumbai came in the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. He did not find any buyers in the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) auction.
