Jasprit Bumrah’s insane form continues as India’s pace spearhead claims his maiden fifer at Lord’s, breaks Kapil Dev's long-standing record, and etches his name on the iconic Honours Board.

Bumrah Breaks Kapil Dev’s Record with Sensational Five-Wicket Haul at Lord’s

Bumrah’s return was nothing short of outstanding. He picked up a brilliant 5/74 against England in the first innings of the 3rd Test, surpassing Kapil Dev’s record for the most five-wicket hauls in overseas Tests by an Indian.

Although Bumrah had a quiet Day 1 going wicketless in the first session despite bowling tight lines—he saved his best for Day 2. He broke through by castling the No. 1 Test batter Harry Brook with a peach of a delivery.

With the second new ball, Bumrah returned to his prime. He shattered the stumps of centurion Joe Root and England skipper Ben Stokes, giving India a perfect start to the day. He followed that up by removing Chris Woakes, and sealed his record haul by sending back Jofra Archer yet another dismissal where the stumps went flying.

This performance marked Bumrah’s 13th five-wicket haul in overseas Tests, achieved at a staggering average of just 19.96, a remarkable feat, especially considering he overtook Kapil Dev’s tally in nearly half the number of matches. In England alone, Bumrah now boasts four five-wicket hauls, with an average of 25.5.

England posted a solid total of 387 runs on the board. India had a good first hour of play but failed to carry the momentum through the rest of the session, as the duo of Brydon Carse and Jamie Smith stitched a key partnership to power England to a strong total at Lord’s. Notably, India leaked 31 runs through extras, something they will look to tighten up in the second innings.
